Job Description/Responsibilities:
Stone Ridge is seeking a Director of Performing Arts to begin on August 1, 2018.

Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, a member of the international Network of Sacred Heart Schools, is a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls, Grades 1-12, with a co-educational Early Childhood Program, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten in Bethesda, Maryland. With over 700 students, and rooted in the Goals of Sacred Heart education, Stone Ridge inspires young women to lead and serve, through lives of purpose that integrate faith, intellect, community, social action, and personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom.

The Director of Performing Arts provides leadership to the School’s performing arts programming. S/he assists Division Heads with the supervision of and provides leadership and support for, PK-12 music, theater, and dance faculty. S/he collaborates with the Director of Curriculum to articulate and implement a mission-driven, standards-based performing arts curriculum. S/he supports the coordination of all curricular and co-curricular performing arts programming, including the annual all-school Christmas Concert, the annual Spring Festival, theatrical productions, dance recitals, and other occasional performances. S/he teaches performing arts courses as determined by the candidate’s background and the needs of the program; an estimated 50-60% of her/his time is spent teaching. S/he supports the Head of School with the assessment of physical space as it relates to the performing arts and assists with the current master planning process as it relates to the performing arts program. As a member of the School’s Management Team, the Director of Performing Arts collaborates with other program leaders and administrators to shape the programmatic and professional life of the School.

Certification Required: No
Minimum Experience: 5-7 Years

 
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate possesses an advanced degree in music education or related field as well as significant experience in teaching and leadership in independent and/or Catholic schools. S/he has experience in the development and implementation of instrumental, choral, and/or general music programming at varied levels, as well as experience in supervision and evaluation of faculty. S/he demonstrates an understanding of the role of performing arts in the education of girls, proficiency in the performance of one or more instruments, and excellent communication skills. An understanding of Catholic Liturgical Music and/or experience leading program and curriculum in PK-12 schools are both valued but not required.
