About Our School:

In 1999, the School District of the City of York in Pennsylvania was struggling with student achievement. Schools were not performing well, with students at Lincoln Elementary School performing at the lowest level in the district. The superintendent, with the support of a group of parents and teachers from Lincoln Elementary School, sought a new approach to help improve the school.

Lincoln Elementary School was converted into a charter school in 2000. The school partnered with Edison Learning using Edison Learning’s School Designs to build and manage the school, now called Lincoln Charter School. In 2015 the school became independent of Edison’s management and is now a site managed LEA.

Our Students:

Lincoln Charter School is an open enrollment public charter school that currently educates 657 students across grades K-6.  The school was granted an expansion of grades during its last charter renewal (2019) and will eventually serve 785 students in grades K-8.  LCS includes a diverse population of students, including 35% African American, 52% Hispanic, 7% Multi-Racial, 5% White and less than 1% Asian and Pacific Islander. 100% of the students qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch.

Our Buildings:

Lincoln Charter School has been serving children from one building since its founding in 2000.  It has acquired a second site within walking distance that is slated to open for the upcoming school year.  For 2022-2023, the main building will serve grades K-4 and the new building (“The Annex”) will serve grades 5-7. The following school year, the Annex will serve grades 5-8. .

Our Community:

Lincoln Charter School is truly a community school. It not only provides a world class education for its students but it also has an abundance of school traditions that are grounded in serving others, partnering with the local community to make an impact in York City and providing countless supports to its families and surrounding community. Community relations and engagement are a priority at LCS.
