Employer Description

Eaglebrook School is a junior boarding and day school boys in grades six, seven, eight, and nine located in Deerfield, Massachusetts. Founded in 1922, Eaglebrook's vision is to help each student develop his unique gifts during the important middle school years, and our mission is to meet boys where they are in their development and to encourage them to build self-confidence through success.  Eaglebrook welcomes boys of any race, nationality, sexual orientation, or religion, and all share the same privileges and duties.

Eaglebrook offers a rich and diverse curriculum geared toward the learning styles of middle school boys. Eaglebrook’s 257 students come from 20 countries and 18 states and there is a low student to faculty ratio of 3.5:1 and an average class size of 8-12 students. All students at Eaglebrook are guided by faculty advisors who interact with them regularly throughout the day and with whom they usually develop close relationships. The athletic program offers competitive and recreational teams at numerous levels of ability, and there are rich offerings in the performing and visual arts.

At the heart of the school is the shared life of teachers, their families, and boys working together.  Eaglebrook teachers are caring, thoughtful educators who are dedicated to fostering the growth and learning of middle school boys, and they recognize that early adolescence is a unique period of significant learning and growth for young adults that requires a caring, student-centered approach. They understand that boys this age need patience and understanding as well as structure and guidance, and they foster the boys' growth in close collaboration and communication with parents. Teachers at Eaglebrook also recognize that their students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures and that this requires that they be given individualized support. Their work with students is constantly refined based on the lessons of practice, collaboration with colleagues, and research. These professionals are fully engaged in all aspects of school life: academics, athletics, residential, and extra-curricular, and they seek to nurture students in all these areas in developmentally appropriate and culturally sensitive ways. Eaglebrook teachers support this direct work with students by developing strong and open relationships with parents in order for the school and family to work together as a team.

Situated on 800 acres in historic Deerfield on beautiful Mount Pocumtuck, Eaglebrook’s facilities include four academic buildings, one of which serves as the center for science, arts, and performing arts classes, and houses a woodworking shop, ceramics room, stained glass room, stone carving room, bandroom, piano rooms, and chorus room. The academic buildings also house an assembly/theater area, the library, and administrative offices. Additionally, there is a dining hall, six dormitories, an ice hockey rink, olympic-sized swimming pool, a ski hill, numerous sports fields, mountain biking trails, tennis courts, squash courts, basketball courts, and a wrestling room.

The campus is 100 miles west of Boston, 175 miles north of New York City and near several major colleges in the Pioneer Valley. Western Massachusetts offers an array of outdoor recreational experiences - hiking, mountain biking, road cycling, and skiing - and is also rich with local agriculture, preservation of traditional crafts and skills, and cultural events. All of this provides abundant resources for Eaglebrook faculty and students to experience and explore as part of their academic and recreational programming.
