Employer Description

WCDS began as Westchester Academy in 1967 when a small group of parents who wanted to provide their children with the best possible education established the school. Through a generous donation of land, the school is located on a 53-acre country setting west of downtown High Point and within 20 minutes of Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro and downtown Winston-Salem.

Organized in three distinct divisions, the Lower School (K-5) enrolls students in a traditional elementary program that utilizes a variety of experiential learning activities. The Middle School (6-8) includes a departmental program with a wide variety of enrichment programs. The Upper School (9-12) offers 15 Advanced Placement classes with 100% of the students attending college. There are strong music, arts, and athletics programs through all three divisions, as well as a club program in both the Middle and Upper school, which includes an admissions Ambassador/Blue Key Club and a drama program.

Westchester currently offers 26 sports teams and is a Division 2A member of the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association. Our varsity teams participate in the Triad Athletic Conference and Middle School teams participate in the Triad Middle Athletic Conference.

There are 75 faculty members with an average of 17 years experience. Described by many parents, alumni and students as “exceptionally dedicated,” over 45% of the faculty have advanced degrees.

There are seven buildings on a 53-acre campus with outdoor areas which include soccer fields, baseball complex, basketball courts and a playground. The Lower School houses the primary classrooms and includes an art/music room. Visitors to campus will be drawn to the Finch Center, which houses the main gymnasium, along with world language and science labs. Administrative offices connect to the Upper School building, which houses two computer labs and humanities and mathematics classrooms. The Middle School classroom building connects with a cafetorium (cafeteria and auditorium), which includes music and art classrooms. The Library, which has a collection of nearly 12,000 volumes, is adjacent to the Lower School and administrative building. A new student center and cafeteria is under construction.
