Stone Ridge is seeking a Middle School (Grade 8) Science Teacher to begin work in August 2026. In Grade 8, students study Earth Science, and explore the disciplines of geology, meteorology and chemistry during the course of the year.
Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, a member of the international Network of Sacred Heart Schools, is a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls, Grades 1-12, with a co-educational Early Childhood Program, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten in Bethesda, Maryland. The Middle School Science Teacher is responsible for designing curriculum in alignment with the Maryland State Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for middle-grade students as well as with the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education. Using core ideas from the three major scientific domains articulated in the NGSS, the Stone Ridge Middle School science teachers endeavor to help its students:
- gain a deep understanding of foundational science and scientific concepts;
- apply scientific and technical knowledge to real-world problems in a systematic and rational manner;
- develop life-long learning habits;
- cultivate curiosity; and
- learn through inquiry and discovery with the aspiration of developing a deep understanding of and ability to solve real-world problems.
Working closely with departmental and grade-level colleagues, the successful Science Teacher will:
- design and update lesson plans for content, skill-building, and continuity of curriculum;
- embrace experiential, interdisciplinary, and inquiry-based learning approaches;
- actively collaborate with Learning Strategists, Educational Technologists, Librarians and with the Middle School Counselor to develop strategies to support all students;
- attend all faculty and employee meetings, and in-house professional development sessions;
- serve as a student Advisor;
- fulfill other faculty duties; and
- maintain good communication with families about student progress through regular progress reports, report cards, and responses to parents’ inquiries.
Compensation includes competitive benefits and salary commensurate with experience, within our salary range of $60,000-$95,000+
