Deputy Head of Secondary (Full-Time)

Description: The Deputy Head of
Secondary School plays a key leadership role in overseeing the day-to-day
operations and strategic direction of the secondary school program. The
position works collaboratively with the Head of Secondary and other
administrators to ensure a thriving academic environment, effective student
support systems, and a positive school culture. The Deputy Head will support
curriculum development and implementation, supervising and supporting faculty
in their professional growth, collaborating and supervising student support
services and initiatives, and representing the secondary school in various
capacities. The Deputy Head serves as a visible and approachable leader,
building strong relationships with students, parents, and staff, and ensuring
the successful execution of the school's vision for secondary education.
Reports To: Head of Secondary School
Required Qualifications:
●
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred)
●
Experience leading and managing staff
●
At least 5 years full-time teaching and/or
school leadership experience within a secondary school
Preferred Qualifications:
●
International and/or independent school
experience
●
Advanced degree in administration or
curriculum
●
Bilingual in English and one of the school’s
primary languages, French or Spanish
●
Excellent communication,
collaboration and interpersonal skills
●
Ability to design and deliver
customized professional development to teachers
Deputy Head Duties:
●
Meet with individual students to facilitate
progress with academic challenges, moderate social struggles and manage
behavioral concerns
● Support the implementation of curriculum and instructional
programs
●
Conduct classroom observations
and provide feedback to teachers on instructional practices, classroom
management, and student engagement
●
Provide mentoring and
professional development opportunities to support staff growth and
effectiveness
●
Collaborate with the Head of
Secondary in making hiring decisions and assigning duties to staff members
●
Attend regular meetings with Heads of
Department, Student Support Team, Division Head, and others as needed
● Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student
progress, behavior, and school events
●
Organize parent meetings,
workshops, and other events to foster positive relationships between the school
and the community
●
Assist in the day-to-day
administration of the school, including scheduling and facilities management
●
Attend administrative meetings,
participate in decision-making processes, and contribute to the development of
school policies and procedures
●
Handle administrative tasks as
assigned by the Head of Secondary, such as student enrollment, record-keeping,
and report generation
●
Support the Division Head with the
implementation of the faculty evaluation program
●
Design and disseminate yearly class schedules
and teacher duty schedules
●
Oversee the development and logistical
arrangements for yearly field trips
●
Serve on the Admissions Committee
●
Contribute to the wider life of the school in
areas such as special projects, assemblies, field trips and service learning
activities, in addition to curriculum nights, open houses, prospective parent
meetings, and other school and parent events
● Lead or participate in special projects, committees, or
initiatives aimed at improving student achievement, school climate, or
organizational effectiveness
●
Stay abreast of current
educational research, trends, and best practices, and incorporate relevant
ideas into school improvement efforts
●
Represent the school at
meetings, conferences, and community events as needed
