Job Description/Responsibilities:
The Chief Learning Officer (CLO) will report to the Head of School. They will be expected to have significant experience in educational leadership at an independent or public school and hold strong educational credentials in a relevant field. Buckingham Browne & Nichols School recognizes the need to build connections across our Lower, Middle, and Upper School programs. Among the Head of School’s top priorities is a more seamless integration of the three divisions into a single institution with a common vision regarding both the curriculum and the social and emotional care of students. Smooth transitions as students move through their BB&N education are also a priority.  

As BB&N continues to grow and evolve, the new CLO will address priorities within the School and have the opportunity to:
• Drive innovation and lead collaborative change in the academic and pedagogical spheres across all three divisions of the school  
• Supervise and evaluate our 3 campus directors and jointly supervise our Director of College Counseling
• Lead our Learning Leadership team comprised of 12 campus wide leaders
• Serve on our Campus Leadership team comprised of the Head of School, the 3 campus directors, and the COO/CFO
• Serve on our Senior Leadership Team comprised of 14 administrators
• Support the development and success of faculty at all stages of their careers  
• Oversee all aspects of the professional development program for both faculty and staff, minding its budget and working with the Chief Advancement Officer to ensure its funds are strategically disbursed 
• Lead the professional growth and evaluation process for faculty
• Work with Human Resources to coordinate an integrated, year-round faculty hiring process
• Assess current academic programs and help develop new ones to address the evolving needs of the students  
• Oversee curriculum development and coordination across divisions  
• Maintain and strengthen a positive and supportive school climate by promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in all curricular divisions and professional development opportunities and by working closely with the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Global Officer in the development of a diverse and inclusive curriculum and workforce at all four campuses 
• Facilitate and lead collaboration between all those leading instructional programs, including digital learning, athletics and wellness, student services, global education, community outreach, and college counseling
• Lead special projects that advance teaching and learning at BB&N, as directed by the Head of School
• Assist fundraising staff as needed in stewarding the school’s donors
• Serve as part of a small team that leads the school in the Head’s absence
• Engage the Board of Trustees in collaboration with the Head of School 
• Partner with the Head of School and members of the Senior Leadership Group to provide institutional leadership and direction.

Minimum Experience: 7-10 Years

The new Chief Learning Officer must have a genuine passion for working with children and supporting the mission of providing educational opportunities to treat each student as an individual. In addition to being collaborative and imaginative, strong candidates will also bring:
• Significant educational leadership experience, including supporting other administrators
• Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning and a strong record of success in teaching
• Successful experience in evaluating and supervising a large faculty, respect for teachers, and an ability to support and enhance their professionalism
• Significant working knowledge of best practices in Pre-K to 12 curriculum and curriculum planning
• Proven experience embracing technology to enhance teaching and learning, coupled with success in guiding faculty in effective technology integration
• A leadership style that is collaborative, input-seeking, consensus-building, and motivating for faculty and staff
• Strong listening skills and the ability to communicate clearly 
• Commitment to inspiring and sustaining a culture of excellence
• A global mindset appreciative of diversity and dedicated to the goal of maintaining an authentic, inclusive community
• Knowledge of research and successful strategies around increasing equity, diversity, and inclusion
• Significant experience with anti-bias work with a focus on strategic curriculum development and integration
• Experience hiring, evaluating, and mentoring faculty
• A successful track record of curriculum planning and student assessment
• The skills and experiences necessary to play a multifaceted, school-wide role as a member of the several leadership teams 
• Willingness to travel frequently between the four campuses and a belief that the best practice is getting out of the office 
• Intellectual nimbleness, resourcefulness, entrepreneurship, and adaptability
• A sense of humor
