Job Description/Responsibilities:

The Director of Diversity and Inclusion is a senior administrative position which reports directly to the Head of School and includes membership on the Senior Administrative Team. The Director will lead the development and implementation of a culturally responsive and culturally competent anti-bias curriculum across all four divisions of the school. The Director will support NCCS cultural competency through professional development programming for all faculty and staff, community education programming for families, and serve as the Board liaison for strategic NCCS Diversity and Inclusion efforts.

include but are not limited to

-Strategic development and implementation, in partnership with Division Heads, of a culturally responsive, developmentally appropriate anti-bias curriculum 

-Development and oversight of a recruitment and retention strategy for under-represented students, families, faculty and staff 

-Development and implementation of community programming that engages students, families, faculty, staff and trustees in the areas of diversity and inclusion related conversations

-Support of student centered Diversity and Inclusion leadership development across all four divisions

-Partnership with NCCS Horizons Student Enrichment Program to build reciprocal partnership relationship and diversity and inclusion alignment between the two entities

Minimum Degree: BA
Certification Required: No
Minimum Experience: 3-5 Years


The successful candidate will have broad school or other relevant experience and a proven record of success in leading similar efforts at other institutions or organizations. This person will be conversant with a range of models for teaching cultural competency and will be prepared to coach the community in developing the best model for New Canaan Country School in accordance with industry best practices.

Experience Required:

-Significant experience in creating, implementing, managing and assessing educational programs

-Exceptional communication skills across diverse constituent groups

-Strong interpersonal skills and a sincere, open manner

-Commitment to lifelong learning 

-Ability to navigate complex systems with humor and confidence

-Capacity to think strategically and manage multiple stakeholders with diplomacy

-Bachelor degree, Master degree preferred
