5% of Revenue Donated Annually to Local Charities

At NEMNET, we believe that true impact extends beyond recruitment—it's about uplifting the communities we serve. Giving back is at the heart of our mission, and each year, we dedicate 5% of our revenue to support individuals, organizations and endeavors that are driving meaningful change.
Guided by the principle, "To whom much is given, much will be required," we are committed to being a visible, active, and responsible community partner.
Through sponsorships, partnerships, direct contributions and the NEMNET Scholarship, we strive to expand our reach and deepen our impact in education and beyond. We are proud to have partnered and supported the below charities, organizations, events and programs: Together, we can build a more equitable future—one investment at a time.
In the Spring of 1994, three recent college graduates convened a meeting at the PALANA Center on the campus of Middlebury College (Middlebury, VT). Recognizing the persistent underrepresentation of people of color in education and employment—particularly within independent schools—they initiated a dialogue around building a formal network of support. This gathering marked the conceptual birth of an organization dedicated to expanding access, equity, and opportunity.
On June 3, 1994, that vision became reality with the founding of NEMNET (New England Minority Network). The organization was established to support individuals and institutions committed to increasing diversity in education.
In 1995, NEMNET was officially incorporated and began operations out of Pomfret School (Pomfret, CT). In its inaugural year, the organization partnered with five local schools, providing targeted support in identifying, recruiting, and retaining educators of color. The impact was immediate. By the following year, membership expanded significantly to include 28 schools and organizations, demonstrating both the need for and value of NEMNET's mission.
In 1996, NEMNET launched its first Learning Institute for Educators (L.I.F.E.), a week-long professional development program designed to support new teachers of color entering independent schools. The program combined mentorship, community-building, and skill development. By the end of that summer, NEMNET's reach had grown to serve over 75 schools and organizations, as well as approximately 500 candidates of color—establishing L.I.F.E. as a cornerstone of its programming.
In 1997, NEMNET relocated its headquarters to New Haven, CT, positioning itself for broader regional and national engagement. That same year, NEMNET hosted its first Annual Diversity Career Fair for Educators at Harvard University. The event brought together over 30 employers and 150 candidates, creating a high-impact recruitment space that would become a signature offering.
In the Spring of 1998, NEMNET underwent a transformative expansion: The organization began serving clients and candidates nationwide, extending beyond its New England roots. Reflecting this growth, NEMNET redefined its name to stand for the National Employment Minority Network. Diversity Career Fairs expanded to major cities including Boston, Washington, D.C., Newark, Atlanta, Dallas, and San Francisco—significantly increasing access and visibility. This period marked NEMNET's transition from a regional initiative to a national leader in diversity recruitment.
In 2004, NEMNET launched the NEMNET Consulting Group (NCG) to deepen its impact beyond recruitment. NCG's mission: to educate and empower schools and leaders through research-driven strategies that improve diversity recruitment and retention. Since its inception, NCG has contributed to over 120 projects, providing institutions with actionable insights and long-term DEI strategies.
In 2009, NEMNET embraced a more flexible and innovative operational model: The organization doubled the size of its team, transitioned away from a centralized corporate office, and team members began working across six U.S. states and two countries. This shift enabled greater reach, responsiveness, and alignment with a growing national and international client base.
In 2014, NEMNET celebrated its 20th anniversary, marking two decades of leadership in diversity recruitment. Key milestones included sponsorship of the NAIS People of Color Conference (POCC), strengthening its partnership with one of the most influential gatherings in independent education, and a partnership with the American School in London, launching NEMNET's International Recruitment Program, which extended its services to schools and candidates beyond the United States.
In 2018, NEMNET began placing greater emphasis on research and data: Expanded NCG's role in institutional assessments and climate studies, published insights and frameworks to guide schools in sustainable DEI practices, and positioned itself as both a practitioner and thought leader in diversity recruitment.
In 2020, amid a national and global reckoning on race and equity, demand for NEMNET's services increased significantly. The organization supported schools navigating urgent DEI commitments, hiring practices, and internal cultural change. Virtual programming expanded rapidly, including online professional development.
In 2023, NEMNET invested in digital infrastructure to increase accessibility: Transitioned key recruitment and engagement platforms online, expanded candidate databases and matching systems, and increased global reach through virtual events and international partnerships.
In 2024, NEMNET celebrated its 30th anniversary, reflecting on three decades of impact: Thousands of educators placed and supported, hundreds of schools transformed through partnership, and a renewed commitment to innovation in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Established in 1994, NEMNET is a talent acquisition platform and career network built exclusively for education. We help schools and educational organizations attract, source and hire exceptional educators, administrators and school leaders.
