NEMNET CEO & Director Warren Reid with Corinne Fogg [Stone Ridge] and David Grant [Potomac Schoo] "Teacher Turnover: Why It Matters and What We Can Do About It." at the 2018 NAIS People of Color Conference in Nashville, TN. The proposal was selected from a large and impressive pool of more than 400 submissions.
"Teacher Turnover: Why It Matters and What We Can Do About" will address how independent schools have experienced success in recruiting diverse faculty. Unfortunately, much of that success is usually erased within the first two to four years. The effects and costs of attrition on a school and its community are many.
This session will examine the factors that contribute to attrition and retention; in doing so, the research presented by facilitators and dialogue shared by participants will help schools to develop a framework for change. This session will also examine the Four Corners of Retention: employer, manager, professional development, and community, and its correlation to successful retention. Participants will be invited to share their experiences, perspectives, and insights. They will also leave with a diagnostic tool developed and used to assess risk for faculty attrition.
