Assistant Director of Equity and Inclusion

Brentwood School, a vibrant and diverse K-12 independent school, is looking for a full-time Assistant Director of Equity and Inclusion who will work closely with and assist the Director of Equity and Inclusion. This position requires a trained teacher with demonstrated experience in the areas of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. The Assistant Director, in partnership with the Director of E and I, will assist in overseeing the integrated and collaborative implementation of the school’s Statement of Purpose, values, and strategic agenda through curricular, co-curricular, and community programs. The Assistant Director will help plan and facilitate events, programs, and committees in the areas of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, including but not limited to:

·         All-Family Celebration of Diversity

·         Professional Development

·         Assemblies/Community Time/Advisory

·         African-American Read-Ins

·         All Affinity Group Events

·         Various conferences and school events (i.e. Diversity Day, Pollyanna)

 

Essential tasks and responsibilities include:

·         Serve as a member of a divisional leadership team, coordinate with Parent Affinity Group leaders and Faculty/Staff Affinity Group leaders

·         Help oversee Student Affinity Groups including the Student Diversity Council

·         Co-teach an established 9th Grade Foundations unit focused on multiculturalism and identity

·         Supervise and help to manage the Multicultural Center

·         Serve as a resource to all constituents, including faculty, staff, and parents

·         Support and advance school-wide initiatives in the areas of hiring, admissions, financial support, curriculum, athletics, special programs, etc.

·          Strategize with Lower, Middle and Upper Schools and various departments, including the Business Office, Admissions, Communications, Advancement, Service Learning, Student Life, Summer Programs, and the Belldegrun Center for Innovative Leadership

 

·         Partner with, support, and offer leadership to the Equity and Inclusion Division Specialists

·         Engage in professional and personal development and commit to growth in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion

·         Participate and initiate opportunities that demonstrate one's growth, knowledge, and skills

·         Other duties as assigned

·         Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships

·         A collaborative and flexible approach with a genuine enthusiasm for working with students, parents, faculty, and staff

·         Ability to work with others as well as independently

·         Ability to confidently and creatively problem solve

·         Even-temperament, excellent listening skills

·         A commitment to ongoing professional growth and development

·         A genuine joy, enthusiasm, and passion for students and for education

·         An advanced degree desired; academic experience in areas of social justice, equity, diversity and inclusion, preferred
