New England New Teacher Seminar (NENTS)
8/10/2015 to 8/14/2015,
all day
Join us for NENTS 2014 as our staff of master teachers leads you on a journey of self discovery, helping you to understand and manage the complex challenges facing all new teachers. What lies ahead? How do you think like a teacher? What is your learning style and what will that mean for your students? How do you create a classroom climate to meet the needs of your students? The framework of this seminar includes curriculum and lesson planning, assessment, active learning techniques and teaching philosophies all of which we hope will build confidence in preparing for your first few weeks of school. Additionally, guest speakers will address a variety of topics to enhance your work as a new teacher. This seminar will provide opportunities for new teachers to discuss current issues and trends in education while enabling you to form partnerships and alliances that will enhance excellence in teaching and learning.
NENTS is an intensive five-day workshop designed to help prepare inexperienced teachers (grades 6-12) for the profession in general and for the realities they will face during the school year. Now in its 23rd year, NENTS joins programs in Virginia, Illinois and California to offer nationwide options for the pre-professional development of first-year independent school teachers. Unlike other programs, NENTS focuses on the full range of teaching and advising responsibilities as they typically occur in an independent school setting; day or boarding. You’ll also spend time meeting with a master teacher in your discipline.
